The church of San Miguel el Alto is located in one of the highest areas of the city, close to the Alcázar, being one of the old existing Latin parishes in Toledo. Apparently, in its beginnings, it was related to the Order of the Temple, serving as a chapel or oratory for the hostel that, it is believed, the knights of this Order had in the vicinity of the temple.

The Church of San Miguel el Alto is one of Toledo's oldest and most unique churches, located in one of the highest areas of the city, near the Alcázar, which gives it spectacular views of the historic center and the Tagus River. Probably founded in the 12th century by Alfonso VI on the site of a former mosque, it was linked to the Knights Templar, serving as a chapel or oratory for their hostelry.
