The museum is housed in a former hospital, which boasts a beautiful courtyard and architecture reminiscent of Moorish times. The collection includes two rooms of El Greco paintings; I counted 14. On the upper floor, there's a collection of earthenware.

The Santa Cruz Museum is one of the most important cultural spaces in Toledo and throughout Castilla-La Mancha. It is located in the former Hospital of Santa Cruz, a 16th-century Renaissance building founded by Cardinal Pedro González de Mendoza to house orphaned children.

In 1494, Cardinal Pedro González de Mendoza received a papal bull to build a hospital for orphaned and abandoned children, dedicated to the Holy Cross of Jerusalem. The Cardinal's early death did not prevent its construction, which was made possible thanks to his will, in which he left a substantial sum for the foundation and named the children as heirs. Queen Isabella the Catholic and her successor, Cardinal Cisneros, were appointed as executors.
