Gladiators and wild animals amphitheater on Zugmantel
The large number of visitors in the camp village of Zugmantel made the maintenance of two small amphitheaters profitable. A plant was located here on the northern edge of the settlement not far from Hühnerstrasse. You can see a circular earth wall (48m) which serves as a substructure for the wooden frame with the rows of seats and an arena (24m) that was sunk into the ground. The finds from Zugmantel can be linked to gladiators and animal fights.

Two approximately round rubble walls rise impressively in the forest in the area of the camp village north and east of the Zugmantel fort. These are the remains of Roman amphitheaters. Comparable buildings are known from some Limes forts. They were used by the troops stationed in the fort for exercises and demonstrations, but were also possibly used for animal baiting and gladiator fights. An inscription on the platoon coat actually names a group of hunters (vestigatores).

The two amphitheaters were initially thought to be fortifications. Many maps still label them as "round ramparts." Only later was the misunderstanding recognized and the structures identified as amphitheaters.
Today, only the earthworks remain. Information panels provide a brief insight into their former use and structure.
