Hanover is criss-crossed by the sprawling Eilenriede, a huge forest recreation area. It runs from northeast to south - up to the Maschsee. Innumerable paths run through this green "lung", sometimes forest, sometimes park, sometimes with water, sometimes with playgrounds. Small localities are scattered and partly idyllic on the trails.
