The marble monument to Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi") was designed by Hans Bitterlich and was unveiled on June 4, 1907 in the presence of the Emperor, with girls dressed in Greek costumes scattering roses. It is the memorial for the wife of Franz Joseph I, who was assassinated on September 10, 1898 in Geneva.
