Boltenhagen is located between the old Hanseatic cities of Wismar and Lübeck. A more than 5 km long, stone-free, fine sandy beach changes from a flat coast to a steep coast. The flat coast is followed to the west by a 35 m rising steeply beautiful cliffs. This cliff is a product of the Ice Age and is referred to as the glacial rubble coast. While the coasts are more rocky and granitic in the north of the Baltic Sea, blue clay, boulder clay, clay, chalk and boulders were deposited here by the glaciation of the ice age.Anyone can discover a variety of polished foundlings on a tour. The steep coast is a very sensitive landscape with annual crashes of several decimeters to meters. The crashes are usually in the spring and fall. After such crashes you are often lucky enough to find fossils at the foot of the cliffs.boltenhagen.de/der-ort/naturnah/steilkueste
