The neo-gothic style church was designed by architect Eduard Wendebourg from Hanover. He also took over the construction management. From the old church, the crucifix on the altar, parts of the pulpit and two woodcarvings were taken over. The organ of the church was built by the company Furtwängler and Hammer.
The foundation stone was laid on July 3, 1892, and on October 29, 1893, Pastor August Cordes, who had been active in Kuhstedt since 1892, was able to officially inaugurate the church. The church received two bells from the bell founder Otto from Hemelingen.
The larger bell was melted down during the First World War. It was replaced by donations from overseas in 1927. She too became a victim of World War II. In 1991, a new one - from the bell foundry Bachert in Friedrichshall - could be solemnly consecrated.
