Beautiful area and a well "designed" center with stone walls in the shape of the national borders, picnic area and Steinmanndli adventure trail.
The true geographic center is a few hundred meters down the slope, and it's also marked with a nice metal pyramid like a survey point, but it's really hard to access.

On the occasion of its 150th birthday (1988), the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo calculated the country's centroid from the newly digitized Swiss national borders. If you stuck a map of Switzerland on cardboard and cut it out along the border, it would be in equilibrium on a needle point. The exact WGS84 coordinates are 46 ° 48 '4 "N, 8 ° 13' 36" E.
In reality, this point is located above a cliff west of Chli Älggi (municipality Sachseln, canton Obwalden). Therefore, he was moved to 500 meters to the southeast, to an easily accessible, very scenic location. The point is well marked in the terrain today.
