From 1797 to 1808, Wendelstein was subordinate to the Schwabach Justice and Chamber Office. In 1806 the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. With the municipal edict in 1808, the Wendelstein tax district was formed, to which Zollhaus belonged. In 1818, the rural community of Wendelstein was created, which coincided with the tax district. It was assigned to the Schwabach Regional Court in terms of administration and jurisdiction and to the Schwabach Rent Office (renamed Schwabach Tax Office in 1919) in terms of financial administration. From 1862, Wendelstein belonged to the Schwabach district office (renamed Schwabach district in 1939). Jurisdiction remained with the Schwabach Regional Court (renamed Schwabach District Court in 1879).[13] In 1961 the municipality had an area of 7,295 km².[14]

With industrialization in the 19th century, wood turners and metal spinners settled, and sandstone mining in Wernloch intensified. In 1843, the Ludwig-Donau-Main Canal was built in the north of Wendelstein, and in 1886 the port of Wendelstein was also opened up with the Feucht–Wendelstein railway line.

The Feucht–Wendelstein railway line began operations in 1886 and passenger traffic was stopped in 1955. When freight traffic ended in 1960, the tracks were dismantled.

On July 1, 1971, the municipality of Raubersried was incorporated into Bavaria as part of the regional reform.[15] On May 1, 1978, Röthenbach, Großschwarzenlohe and their parts of the community were added.[
