Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt spent their childhood here in the palace.
After his discharge from civil service in 1819, Wilhelm von Humboldt retired to his parents' house and commissioned Karl Friedrich Schinkel to remodel the Renaissance building, both inside and out, in a Neoclassical style.
The palace is closed in winter as it is privately owned, and photography is prohibited, although it is permitted in the park.
