Hiking
The idea of building an Orthodox cathedral in Sibiu, the capital of the Metropolitanate, originated with Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna. He appealed to the Emperor in the nearby diocese via a circular letter.
Following this appeal, the actual fundraising began. Emperor Franz Joseph I was the first to donate 1,000 gold coins, followed by the Governor of Transylvania with 50 gold coins, and finally by the Metropolitan.
Construction of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (Catedrala Ortodoxă "Sfânta Treime") began in 1902 and lasted until 1904, when the church was roofed.
