The refuge is located near Colle della Croce di Ferro, at an altitude of 2,545 m, not far from the slopes of Rocciamelone (3,538 m), whose summit is home to Europe's highest sanctuary. The refuge is located along the G.T.A. (Grande Traversata delle Alpi) and Sentiero Italia trails. Various other climbs and hikes are also possible.
