The oldest source for Ehreshoven can be found in an income register of the Benedictine Abbey of Siegburg, dating from 1255 to 1280. In the years 1308, 1313, and 1322, respectively, documents from the Siegburg Abbey and the Cologne Cathedral Chapter mention Knight Heidenreich and Squire Heinrich, who is referred to as a "vassal of the abbey." Accordingly, Ehreshoven had been a fief issued by the Siegburg Abbey since at least the end of the 13th century, and had been in the hands of a noble family named "von Ehreshoven" for at least two generations. On March 11, 1355, his son Adolf asked the Abbot of Siegburg to enfeoff his father Heinrich with "Yrenshoven." After his father's death (1363), Adolf succeeded as a vassal of the Siegburg Abbot.
The Ehreshoven, Troisdorf, and Grafschaft Ehreshoven families each owned "Ehreshoven" for only a few decades. On October 19, 1387, with Adolf's death, it passed to the Nesselrode family. Adolf's daughter Jutta, who was married to Wilhelm von Nesselrode, had agreed to this with her brothers. "Ehreshoven" remained in the possession of the Nesselrode family for over five centuries. A Siegburg vassal list dated late 1387 mentions a "Burch [castle house] zo Irishoven" for the first time.
