The Castor mine was the largest lead and zinc ore mine in the Bensberg mining district in the 19th century. Between 1853 and the closure in 1906, more than 50,000 tons of lead ore and zinc ore each were mined. What remained are a few clarification ponds, in which the sludge-like residues of the ore processing could settle before the water was discharged into the Agger. A habitat for aquatic insects and amphibians has been created here.
