This chapel stands above Thurndorf on the 642 m high Calvary, which served geometers as a trigonometric reference point as early as the 19th century. The year the foundation stone was laid is engraved above its portal: 1752. In order to get money for an early, necessary expansion, Pope Clemens XII. In 1762 he even issued a letter of indulgence. This means that the Calvary Chapel must have been a much-visited place of pilgrimage at the time. A few services are still held in the summer. In 1969 the chapel was robbed and threatened to fall into ruin. Only a renovation in the 80s saved this gem.

The laying of the cornerstone of the Calvary Chapel probably took place in 1752, when this chapel replaced a crucifixion group erected on the mountain. The year of the construction, as well as the year of the extension 1792 under pastor J. B. soft, are in the sandstone of the building over the portal carved.
The enlargement may have been necessary because of the heavy influx of worship services held twice a year, on "Sorrowful Friday" and on "Portijuncular Sunday," as the Pope had approved an indulgence for these services. This indulgence for the services of the Calvary Chapel can be documented for the first time in 1762. The letter of discharge is issued by Pope Clement XII. on the 25th of March, 1762, for the day of the Virgin Mary. Thus, the statements of the locals are likely to be occupied, which tell that the Calvary Chapel was once a well-visited place of pilgrimage. It is also possible to prove worship services up to the 1950s, but these decreased as the construction of the chapel deteriorated.
