The Breitenau monastery was a Benedictine abbey in the village of Breitenau in the municipality of Guxhagen near Kassel, in what was then the "Breiten Aue" at the confluence of the Eder and Fulda rivers. From the 19th century the facility was used as a "reformatory" and from 1974 as a psychiatric hospital. During the time of National Socialism, the Breitenau concentration camp was housed in the monastery.
