Four kilometers east of Rudkøbing is Skrøbelev Church, which contains beautiful square paintings.
The church was built in the Middle Ages and later expanded to include a porch, tower and late Gothic nave choir. The tower has been repaired several times, including in the 1840s, when it was given strong struts. In 1956, during a restoration of the church, some funny primitive lime paintings from around 1500 were discovered, including several unicorns, which are considered symbols of Mary.

The church was originally richly decorated. This can be seen in a series of picture squares set into the walls. For example, there is a ship with dragon heads, a lion biting a human head, an animal biting its own tail and a warrior fighting an animal.
The church bell apparently has a name according to the inscription: "Anna dat ieg hedder" (Anna, that is my name).
