Hiking
Newtown boasts the only National Nature Reserve on the Isle of Wight. Residents saved the site from becoming a nuclear power station in the 1960s by conducting wildlife surveys. Since then, Newtown has been recognised as a special place that is home to many species of wildlife. With hay meadows, ancient woodlands, salt marsh and the clear waters of the harbour, it forms a very diverse habitat. Newtown is managed by the National Trust.
