Already at the beginning of the 20th century, the dam was planned to protect the towns along the Nagold River from flooding. But it took another 65 years before the groundbreaking took place. The Nagold Dam finally went into operation in 1971. Of course, the Nagold Dam, which contains around 5.6 million cubic meters of water, can do much more than just protect against flooding. It balances the water level during long-term droughts and supplies environmentally friendly electricity.
