As "unofficial village" is the place Marnehuizen near Lauwersoog. He has no inhabitants and serves as a military practice area (housing combat) of the Dutch army. It is the largest plant of its kind in Europe.

The area consists of a few former sandbanks and is widely used by the defense organization as a training ground. With approximately 1,600 hectares, this is the largest training ground in the Netherlands. Here is also the military training village Marnehuizen.
