Bastion Leibfried Viewpoint

The Bastion Leibfried is an artificial viewing hill that was built according to the designs of the landscape architect Hans Luz and his office in the Leibfriedschen Garden in Stuttgart. When planning the international horticultural exhibition in 1993, Hans Luz attached great importance to vantage points and visual relationships. The Bastion Leibfried is one of the art stations that were installed in the park landscape of the Green U in Stuttgart for the IGA '93 and were retained after the exhibition.

At the point where the Leibfried bastion rises, there used to be a water tank for the water features in the garden of the nearby Villa Moser. From the viewing platform, "the visitor can see both the urban landscape and the everyday reality of the Pragsattel, one of the most important transport structures in the entire Stuttgart region".

Resembling a giant molehill, the frustoconical lookout hill is topped by a bastion, a ring-shaped natural stone wall enclosing a lookout platform. The mound together with the bastion is about 11 m high and has a diameter of about 60 m; the bastion measures about 12 m in diameter.

Up the steep stairs or follow the switchbacks. Once at the top - not a minute of effort - let your gaze wander all around. It presents itself: Leibfriedscher Garten, the old IGA area and much more. In addition, colorful graffiti on the "Bastion".
