Small chapel - built after the destruction of the much larger abbey church.
September 13, 2019
The village of Saint Mathieu consists today only of individual houses, but was in the Middle Ages a large community. Economic basis formed the monastery, whether by the supply of the monastery, it was by the held on the monastery markets, it was the revenue from the exploitation of the beach property, the dangerous coast led to many shipwrecks. The current chapel was built in 1881 and was the parish church of the place. From the remains of the much larger predecessor building of the Notre Dame du Bout du Monde (the Virgin of the End of the World) testifies the preceding large Gothic portal. In the church are pictures of the former abbey.
