Hiking
The park is an example of a Victorian style garden
with an abundance of botanical species.
Construction started in 1845 and now consists of 6 hectares
with more than 6000 species of trees and shrubs.
It shares a continuous border with the gardens of the Palace of Santana,
the residence of the President of the Government of the Azores.
Within its walls there are many buildings, including the monument of Jose do Canto,
a mansion (in the 18th century style), an old Victorian-esque glasshouse adapted as a pavilion,
and the aforementioned chapel of Santana.
