Hiking

The current building was constructed between 1895 and 1905 on the site of a previous station. The project was designed by architect Louis Delacenserie. During World War II, it was damaged by German V-2 bombs.

In 1998, work began to transform the station from a terminal to a through station. A tunnel was dug under Antwerp Central, directly connecting the smaller stations of Antwerp-Dam and Antwerp-Berchem.

In 2011, Antwerp Central station was awarded the Europa Nostra European Union Heritage Prize.
