The sun paths are a circular hiking trail. It leads along the communities of Sohland an der Spree, Wehrsdorf and Taubenheim/Spree in the Saxon Upper Lusatia. The concept is a joint project of the municipalities and the Sohland/Spree observatory association. It is based on the results of the archaeoastronomical research project Götterhand of the archaeoastronomy group of the Sohland Observatory. The task of the research project was to search for calendar-astronomical sun functions on rock and stone formations in Upper Lusatia and neighboring regions. More than forty objects were found that have a possible function and are therefore referred to as sun shrines of Upper Lusatia. The implementation of the tourism concept based on the research was funded by the Free State of Saxony and the European Union.[1]
