The shrine stands at the eastern end of Montello at an altitude of 176 m (located in Colesel de Zorzi or Colesel delle Zorle, in the municipality of Nervesa della Battaglia). It contains the remains of 9,325 (initially 9,316) Italian soldiers (of whom 6,099 are identified and 3,226 are unknown), previously buried in approximately one hundred and twenty cemeteries scattered along the Piave front.
