The Fontana del Nettuno in Rome's Piazza Navona is one of three fountains that adorn this Baroque square, along with the Fountain of the Four Rivers and the Fountain of the Moor.
For centuries, it was a fountain without sculptures, used only to supply water.
It was decorated in the 19th century to visually balance the square with the Fountain of the Moor at the southern end.

The Fontana del Nettuno in Rome is located on the north side of Piazza Navona. It was designed in the 16th century by Giacomo Della Porta, but the central statue of Neptune battling a sea monster was only added in the 19th century by Antonio Della Bitta. The fountain is richly decorated with mermaids, tritons, and other marine figures and, along with the other fountains in the square, forms an important part of Piazza Navona's Baroque atmosphere.
