La fontana della barcaccia is a fountain in Rome, shaped like a half-sunken boat. The fountain was created by Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini on behalf of Pope Urban VIII in the 17th century. The fountain commemorates the great flood that struck Rome in 1598, when a boat was left stranded in the square by the waters of the Tiber. The fountain is decorated with the papal coat of arms and the sun, symbols of the Barberini family. The fountain is located at the foot of the Spanish Steps in Piazza di Spagna, one of the most famous squares in Rome.
