The museum village was founded in 1975 with the goal to build an entire medieval village on the archaeologically excavated house floor plans and to represent the daily life of the inhabitants alive. The houses in the Berlin Cölln of the late 12th century, which was being built at the same time, probably did not look much different. There is history here - not just to watch as in other museums, but to touch, try out, listening, smelling, experiencing and participating.
