Former royal palace with the so-called castle (heavily altered) and ramparts. King Conrad III celebrated Easter here in 1146 and subsequently held a Diet, which Albert the Bear also attended. In 1179, Emperor Frederick I demanded that the Saxon Duke Henry the Lion account for the refusal of aid during the Italian campaign of 1176 in Kayna. Henry refused for the third time. By 1310, the palace had declined to the status of a robber baron's castle. A successor building, the so-called castle, was built, later converted into a forester's lodge, which was extensively rebuilt in 1950.
