The owner of the manor of
Großharthau submitted a building application for the construction of a riding arena in the spring of
1897. The building permit
was granted. It was completed
in February 1898.

The riding arena was primarily
used for handling horses.
But it also served as a
festival hall.

After 1945, it was largely
used as a storage facility for
machinery and vehicles.
Only the front part served as the
Moritzburg stud farm.

After 73 years, the stud farm was
closed for good in 1991.

In 1992, the riding arena was cleared
and, with much hard work and dedication,
it was restored to its original purpose: riding.
