The cairn is a classic cairn, commonly found on Omey Island and throughout Ireland. On Omey Island in particular, such cairns with paintings and dedications are a very prominent feature. This one is located on one of the island's flat, rocky plateaus. Such memorial cairns are typical of pilgrimage sites and are often erected along spiritual paths or at places of power.
