Check the tides timetables. You can only cross by foot here if the water is low. When the water are high, the current is quite strong and you can only swim to the other side. I would not recommend this if you are carrying a backpack.

According to tide information found online the time of high water on the day we crossed would be at 17:45. At 16:30 we arrived here and crossed the water without problem (I am 165cm tall and the water was below my waste).
