Above Gleuel, on the southern slope of the Gleueler Bach, the Hermulheim innkeeper and customs collector Hermann Dümgen had leased around 1751 an open pit on the land of the Cologne cathedral chapter, the future pit god's help. The map of 1751 shows already a drainage, which dewatered this first real open pit in the Rhenish district to Gleueler Bach out. The excerpt from the tranchot card of the Mairie de Hürth in the sheet Frechen shows both the Dümgen pit with pit drain and the clearly frayed creek south of Hürth and the fairly large Kendenicher Kuhle.
