The so-called "Musicians' Fountain" was created by the sculptor Heinz Heiber (1928–2003). It was erected in 1985. The fountain is meant to commemorate a local character from Roth, the "Schwendnersmann," who wandered through the local pubs with his guitar and harmonica in the 1950s and 60s. Although the fountain is officially called the Musicians' Fountain, it is still commonly referred to as the Schwendnersmann ("Schwendners-Mo").

For more information on Heiber, see de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Heiber.
