the oldest mention of Eppegem as an independent parish dates back to the 13th century. During the Wars of Religion at the end of the 16th century, the church was set on fire. The current Saint Clemens Church combines a Romanesque origin and a rare northern tower with Gothic elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1911-1912 the church was renovated and expanded in neo-Gothic style. In the war year 1914, the roofs and vaults were largely destroyed, only to be restored to their full glory in 1920-21.
