Nearly three-quarters of the 100-hectare Keigatbos, the easternmost extension of the Drongengoed, is privately owned and inaccessible to hikers. Approximately 30 hectares are managed by Natuurpunt and are accessible.
The name "Keigat" refers to the barren nature of the soil: a remote ridge where many boulders and stones can be found, remnants of a seabed millions of years old.
