Hiking
The very first bridge was a wooden one dating from 1393, which was replaced by a stone bridge in 1420. A swing bridge was built in 1775, but was destroyed in 1940 when the bridge was blown up.
Next to the bridge stands the eponymous Sint-Janstoren (St. John's Tower), which in the 17th century was designated as the mandatory residence of the city surgeon or plague doctor. Later, the tower was converted into an inn.
