The Renaissance Schwarzenau Castle was first mentioned - as a castle at that time - in 1150. It was converted into today's castle in the 16th century. During the Second World War it was used as a refugee center and occupied by the Soviets. During these years, the once magnificent building was badly damaged. From 1991 the castle - again privately owned - underwent extensive renovations. Today the complex impresses with a park and pond as well as valuable decorated outbuildings such as a tavern and chapel. The latter is considered a popular wedding location.
