Maria Eleonora Lassnig, née Gregorc, was an Austrian painter, graphic artist, and media artist.

On September 8, 1919, Maria Eleonora Gregorc was born out of wedlock in a farmhouse in the municipality of Kappel am Krappfeld. She grew up in neglected conditions with her grandmother until the age of six. In 1922, her penniless mother, Mathilde Gregorc, married the baker Jakob Lassnig. In 1925, Maria moved to Klagenfurt to live with her mother and from that year on also used the surname Lassnig. There she attended the Ursuline Convent School, from which she graduated with a high school diploma.

Not far from the Heiligengeistschütt, a colorful cultural alley was created in Maria Lassnig's honor. The "Urban Playground," which has existed since 2024, impresses with its colorful graffiti featuring quotes from the artist.
