Villa Beltza (or Belza) is a neo-medieval villa built between 1880 and 1895 on the rocky coast of Biarritz. In 1882, the land was sold to Ange Dufresnay, general manager of the insurance company Phoenix in Paris. The construction of a house is entrusted to the architect Alphonse Bertrand assisted by the contractor A. Joly. It follows a rectangular plan embellished by a neo-medieval dungeon and a pepper pot turret built by Dominique Morin in 1889. The unusual situation of the villa on the rocks, its proximity to the "Trou du Diable" (a chasm where the waves pass under the road during strong storms), the name "Belza" meaning black in Basque, have fueled legends of witchcraft or ghosts. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Beltza
