Réchicourt-la-Petite has a special historical significance in the context of the First World War. The village is best known as the place where the first three American soldiers were killed on French soil during WWI. This happened at a location called "le Haut des Ruelles". This event marks a significant moment in the American involvement in the war, which only began in 1917. The three soldiers, often referred to as "les Sammies", are commemorated annually, and in 2017 a special ceremony was held to mark the 100th anniversary of their deaths.
