The Spanheimerbrunnen is located on the small Arthur Lemisch Square, not far from the more famous Lindwurm fountain and the Neuer Platz.

The Spanheimerbrunnen is an important monument in Klagenfurt. It shows Duke Bernhard von Spanheim, who lived in the 13th century and is considered the founder of the cities of St. Veit, Völkermarkt and Klagenfurt. However, the monument was only built at the beginning of the 20th century and has been relocated several times.

Duke of Spanheim was the most outstanding figure of the Carinthian sovereigns of the High Middle Ages: he was Duke of Carinthia from 1202 to 1256 and is also referred to as the founder of cities because he granted the ducal markets of St. Veit, Völkermarkt and Klagenfurt city rights.
