The statue stands in front of his childhood home, the Beitinum in Miðvágur. It depicts the famous writer Mikkjal á Ryggi.
Mikkjal Dánjalsson á Ryggi (1879–1956) was born in Miðvágur and lived in Gásadalur. He was a teacher and politician.
However, Mikkjal á Ryggi is best known for his literary work, which includes poems, psalms, local histories, and schoolbooks.
The number of psalms Mikkjal á Ryggi wrote is remarkable. No other Faroese writer wrote as many psalms as he did. Furthermore, Mikkjal á Ryggi was the first to write local histories.
