The story goes that in Sandavágur, a shepherd was tending his flock in the mountains. He spotted a beautiful young woman in a striking red dress. He was immediately captivated and fell in love with her. However, whenever he approached her, she disappeared, only to reappear further away.

This went on for a while, and the shepherd tried desperately to catch up with her, but never succeeded. Eventually, he realized that she was not a human woman, but a huldra (also known as the huldrevolk or hidden people)—a mythical creature from Scandinavian folklore, often depicted as beautiful and seductive, but with a hollow back or a tail and living in the wild.

The huldra are known for luring people, especially men, into the mountains or their realm.
