    Hiking

Op'n Dörp is the name given to the avenue of linden trees around the village green in the old village center of Barsbek. A village green is a small grassy area within a village. Many historic thatched-roof half-timbered farmhouses are also located here.

In spring, the crocuses are in bloom.

💡Tip: Parking is available on the main road 50 meters east.

    THE VILLAGE GREEN
A powerful hurricane raged across Northern Europe in February 1894, knocking down the poplars that lined the village green. [Green: grassy area in a village.] Barsbek decided to plant large-leaved linden trees at this location. These developed water shoots on their trunks, which had to be removed twice a year. This work was done by sheep until the 1960s.
The green undergoes a recurring transformation in the spring: a carpet of crocuses covers the green. New bulbs are planted regularly to ensure that the village green remains an eye-catcher and a popular tourist destination.

The boulder at the village pump originates from the Sinjen family's cottage at Op'n Dörp 16. It served as a foundation and had to be removed during the renovation of the cottage due to its size. A stonemason created the water trough on the boulder during the village renewal project in 1987.
