In the center of the old town, a short detour to the Hofstatt, the only larger square, is worthwhile. It is flanked by the Salt House, built in 1732, where salt was stored until the mid-19th century – it was one of the largest salt depots in the Swiss Confederation. Today, the Salt House is used as a cultural institution.
