The motorway viaduct just before Buchholz in the Schaumburg district is one of the region's most striking engineering structures. It was built in the 1930s as part of the B Construction project for what is now the A2 motorway, an important east-west connection through the Weser Uplands. With its high piers and wide arches, the viaduct spans the Bückeburger Aue valley and was considered an engineering masterpiece at the time of its construction, as it required reconciling challenging topography with modern traffic plans.
