Flax ovens were formerly used to dry flax straw, the raw material for linen fabrics.
After mowing flax has to rot, which usually happened by storing in the fields. For the optimum degree of dryness, the flax straw then hit the crushing furnace. After that he was further processed: by vomiting, combing and spinning.
