The magnificent palace complexes can be seen from afar - not least because Stainz Palace stands on a hill, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. Built in 1229 by Luitbold von Wildon as an Augustinian canon, it is now in the possession of the Counts of Merano, Archduke Johann's descendants. It houses a hunting and an agricultural museum.
